This
F1 article explains how Formula 1 races will no longer feature grid girls. The
grid girls are the girls that wear small outfits and celebrate with the racers
after they win. Formula 1 wanted to “get with the times” and stop selling their
sport to men by using girls wearing small outfits. Several women’s rights
movement groups saluted Formula 1 for making the change to the sport. As an
experiment, Formula 1 tried using grid guys wearing short jeans to see the
reaction. The experiment was obviously not enjoyed by the mass majority of the
fan support of the sport.
In their shoes:
Putting myself in the shoes of the Formula 1 owners, I can
see where they’re coming from with the pressures of the women’s rights groups
and also getting current with the times. I don’t agree with this decision
because the decision to work that profession was up to the grid girls themselves.
They are adult females and they can make their own choices when it comes to
making a living. I feel that feminist groups put too much pressure to bend and
abide by their ways and their ways only. Putting myself in the shoes of the
grid girls, I would be upset of losing my job.
